Kerry Washington Helps Design an Affordable Olivia Pope-Inspired Clothing Line
In the fashion industry, we tend to take the term "celebrity designer" with a grain of salt—after all, more often than not, the associated celeb is more of a face of "their" clothes than someone actually offering any vision or expertise to design (Victoria Beckham and the Olsens notwithstanding). But Olivia Pope fans will be happy to know that this isnotthe case with Kerry Washington and a newScandal-inspired fashion line for The Limited. On the contrary, Washington made it very clear toWWDthat she contributed to the design process, collaborating withScandalcostume designer Lyn Paolo and Limited head of design Elliot Staples every step of the way.
"It's been really fun to have a voice at every stage of the production from picking buttons, choosing fabrics and weighing in on hair and makeup people," she says. "Being an actor who has worn fashion and being somebody who is a fixture on red carpets, I have been able to pull from every level of my experience, including working with magazines."
Those who covet Olivia Pope's sleek-chic no nonsense business look are in for a treat—preview sketches of the collection reveal crisp wide leg trousers and a pretty fabulous looking trench. Even better? The garments will be available at The Limited's affordable price points. Washington—who notes that she tends towards designs by Armani, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Tory Burch—says that this accessibility was very important to her. "People who love the look of the show can now step into this world in a way that is affordable and accessible because not everybody can afford to have the clothes they see on the show."
Ranging from to 2, the collection will hit stores in September. Giant glass of red wine sadly not included.
