How to Make Fudge

Fudge is a great treat for any occasion. Whether you're hiking in the alps, sitting around a fire at Christmas time, or just in the kitchen with a sweet tooth, fudge can be a great little take-a-break sweet, and it is very easy to prepare. This recipe includes the optional ingredient of walnuts. If you do not like or are allergic to walnuts, simply take them out or substitute them with pecans or peanuts.

  • 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (1 cup/14 oz) condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla flavoring or extract
  • Walnuts (optional)

  1. Gather together the ingredients found in the "Ingredients" section.
  2. Pour the chocolate chips into your microwave-friendly bowl, or if you don't have a microwave, a non-stick metal saucepan.
  3. Add condensed milk and vanilla extract.
  4. If not already chopped, place walnuts on a breadboard and chop them into fairly small pieces.
  5. If you have a microwave, put the bowl in the microwave and heat for 1-3 minutes.
    • If you don't have a microwave, put the bowl on the stove and bring to a boil, stirring.
  6. If you have not already done so, line the pan with the aluminum foil, or better yet, wax or parchment paper.
  7. Be aware, the next steps must be done as quickly as possible. The fudge mixture dries a lot faster than expected.
  8. Quickly stir with the knife and pour the mixture into the foil-lined pan.Use the spatula to spread it around and smooth it down. It is best when nice and smooth on top.
  9. Put it in the refrigerator or store in a cool place.
  10. After 1-20 minutes, the fudge should be a nice texture for cutting. It is best cut into 1x1" square pieces.
  11. Leave to cool, either leave in pan and seal with plastic wrap, or store in a sealed plastic container in the fridge.Makes 30-60 pieces.
